Racial injustice and systematic oppression in the United States are deep-rooted issues stemming from a long history of hate and gross negligence by White people for the human and civil rights of Black people. Although we cannot expect to reconstruct a broken system with any one single action, we can takes steps by committing to ongoing educational, economic, and innovative activism that dismantles the social and political constructs in place to suppress people of color.
While our own history as Latinx and Hispanic people in America also stems from violence, genocide, slavery and exploitation, these commonalities should not deter from the fact that the Black American experience is and was drastically different from ours. All oppression connects us as people of color but, the anti-Black racism that exists in this country is an urgent crisis that we need to address immediately.
The most important step in committing to anti-racism is to do the work required to self-educate on the Black experience.
